This unit addresses the skills, knowledge and competencies required to for developing a business case to verify the benefits of a new human resource initiative.

Define the proposed initiative
- Identify emerging opportunities of strategic impact to the business operations of the organisation and division by monitoring environmental trends and factors
- Consult with stakeholders to gather inputs and support for the development of a business case for the proposed initiative
- Research similar initiatives that have been implemented with a view to identifying the factors that contributed to their success or failure
- Identify resources required for implementation of a/the proposed initiative
Define the objective and critical success factors
- Identify the costs and benefits to the department or organisation for the evaluation of the proposed initiative
- Propose timelines for the implementation of the proposed initiative and clarify relationships with other business priorities and strategies
- Work with stakeholders to specify the expectations and critical success factors to ensure their buy-in and support
Prepare a risk management strategy
- Identify potential risks that may impact on their implementation of a new initiative by establishing contributing trends and factors
- Evaluate the impact and likelihood of the risks to establish a schedule of priorities for implementation
- Identify strategies to manage risks
