Georgetown University (GU) and Human Capital (Singapore) have co-developed a specially designed 1-week Executive Education Programme for business owners and corporate leaders from Singapore and the region with special focus on Global Business Leadership and International Relations to prepare them for their business expansion and exploring new markets. This programme is the result of an earlier initiative by HCS on the Global Immersion Programme, which Minister Heng Swee Keat had launched in November 2013.
The APQ aims to promote capability development and productivity growth in the workplace through:
- Redesign and transformation of businesses and culture
- Product Innovation
- Expanding market via internationalisation
*The programme is conducted in English with simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation in Chinese by Professional Interpreters. Learning materials are in English and Chinese.
WHY APQ 2018?
The APQ 2018 programme will help top executives, corporate leaders, business owners and PMEs identify opportunities and challenges of conducting business in other countries in order to better compete in today’s global economy. Georgetown University’s expertise and network, combined with its strength in international business strategy, management, policymaking, international relations, and leadership, make the program truly exceptional. Georgetown has developed a curriculum that focuses on the concepts, techniques, tools, and subjects most relevant to the executive who has a special interest in global business.
This 1-week programme will enable participants to master the fundamental business disciplines and skills needed to evaluate and capitalise on regional and global business opportunities. It is suitable for participants who are already in or aspiring to join in the global business sector.

How much does the APQ Washington DC 2018 cost?
Total course fee: S$12,600* (TBC). Singaporeans and PRs may be eligible for funding of up to $2,600
*Excluding GST. Fees are subject to change. Fees include basic seminar package and site visit transport in Washington DC. Airfare, accommodation, airport transfer and personal expenses are not covered. The programme organiser can arrange for group booking for accommodation and airfare at an estimated cost of S$5,000, subject to terms and conditions.
LOCATION AND SCHEDULE
The intensive 1-week course will be conducted in Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA in November 2018. The pre-learning journey workshops will be conducted in Singapore between Oct to Nov 2018.
TEACHING FACULTY AND LEARNING METHODS
Emphasis on Skill Development
The programme will focus on skills mastery and developing a mindset continually striving towards greater excellence through knowledge, application and experience. The application of skills will be covered under group projects, and case studies based on real-life business challenges.
The programme framework and syllabi will enable participants to:
a) Explore business challenges and transformation
b) Examine “best practices” and apply them in the global context.
c) Build competencies to identify sensitive and competitive situations.
d) Evaluate and implement global expansion strategies.
Effective executive programmes integrate a variety of learning modes and experiences. The APQ 2017 will focus on learning modes that convey meaningful content and allow for significant participant interaction with faculty and with each other. Teaching methods may include lectures, case studies, role plays, panel discussions, simulations, key note speakers, exercises to apply learning the work context and site visits to prominent institutions.

|Paul Almeida is Senior Associate Dean of Executive Education (degree and non-degree programs) and Professor of Strategy and International Business at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. Professor Almeida is also the Co-director of the Georgetown-ESADE Global Executive MBA program. He received his Ph.D. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Professor Almeida’s research studies innovation, knowledge management, alliances and informal collaborations across firms and countries. He is particularly interested in understanding how knowledge flows and builds across people and organizations and how this affects performance. He has published in leading journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and Research Policy as well as in scholarly books. He has served on the editorial boards of several leading journals and as Area Editor for the Journal of International Business Studies. Professor Almeida was also previously Chair of the Technology and Innovation Management Division of the Academy of Management. He has received the Georgetown’s Faculty Research Award and the Dean’s Service Award.
Professor Almeida currently teaches executives and MBAs at Georgetown in the areas of strategy, international business, technology and knowledge management. He has won the Joseph LeMoine Award for Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Excellence, Best Professor Award for Executive Programs at Georgetown University, and is a seven-time winner of the Best Professor Award for Georgetown’s Executive MBA program.
Professor Almeida leads the Office of Executive Education at MSB. The office focuses on developing and running innovative degree and customized certificate programs for executives with an emphasis on global education and technology- enhanced learning. Executive Education offers six highly successful degree programs including the Executive MBA (ranked #5 in the US by Financial Times), Georgetown-ESADE Global Executive MBA (ranked #15 worldwide by Financial Times), Executive Master’s in Leadership program (EML), EML for DC Public School Principals, Executive Master’s in International Business (Brazil), and Master’s of Science in Finance (online). MARC L. BUSCH (Ph.D., Columbia University) is the Karl F. Landegger Professor of International Business Diplomacy at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Professor of Government and Professor of Business Administration at Georgetown University. He is an expert on international trade policy and law.
He serves as a member of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Standards and Technical Trade Barriers (ITAC-16), a public-private group reporting to the U.S. Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative.
He has addressed a wide variety of governments and international institutions, including the Advisory Centre on WTO Law, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the World Bank and the United Nations. He has testified before the US Congress on Airbus- Boeing litigation, and before the Canadian Senate on softwood lumber litigation. He has consulted to Booz Allen Hamilton, Bell Canada, Frontier Strategy Group, Goruck, Health Canada, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, McKinsey, Monitor, Nomacorc, Philip Morris International, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the United Nations, the World Bank, and the Trade Law Division of the Department of International Trade Canada, on behalf of which he addressed a NAFTA 2022 panel on dispute settlement.
He is the author of the book Trade Warriors, as well as articles in the American Journal of Political Science, American Journal of Sociology, British Journal of Political Science, Fordham International Law Journal, International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of World Trade, World Politics and World Trade Review. He has been awarded research grants from the National Science Foundation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the John M. Olin Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Institute for the Study of World Politics, Georgetown, Queen’s, Harvard, and Columbia. He served as co-editor of the journal Economics & Politics, and currently serves on the editorial board of International Studies Quarterly.
He has previously taught at Queen’s University and Harvard. He has received awards for teaching at all three institutions, including MBA Professor of the Module at Georgetown, the Executive MBA, AMBA, Cornell-Queen’s, and MBA Society Teaching Excellence awards at Queen’s School of Business, and Harvard’s Thomas Hoopes Teaching Prize. In 1997, he was nominated for the Joseph Levenson Teaching Award at Harvard for best junior faculty undergraduate professor. In 2004, he received the Frank Knox Teaching Excellence Award for the best undergraduate professor at Queen’s University. In 2010, Forbes Magazine named his course, “Business, Government and the Global Economy,” one of the Top 10 Most Innovative MBA courses in the United States.

|Prior to joining the faculty of the School of Foreign Service, Dr. Desai worked as an economist and private sector development specialist at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
He has taught at Harvard University and Charles University in Prague and is co-editor of Between State and Market: Mass Privatization in Transition Economies, as well as the author of numerous articles, book chapters, and monographs on issues of economic reform and development.
Dr. Desai also serves as an occasional consultant to the World Bank Group, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Development Program, and other international organizations. He was author of the World Bank’s World Development Report 2005: A Better Investment Climate for Everyone.
Arthur Thomas Dong

Professor Dong serves Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business in the Economics and Strategy Department. He has instructed several courses including the core Strategic Management course, Entrepreneurial Strategy, Financial Accounting and the elective the Economics of Strategic Behavior. The latter course, the Economics of Strategic Behavior has proven to be one of the most popular electives within the MBA program.
His professional experience outside of Georgetown includes consulting roles at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, LLP, AT&T and Fannie Mae. Additionally, Arthur has extensive experience in providing strategic advisory to American and local firms operating in China. Arthur’s training within the business curriculum was obtained at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business as well as the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. In addition to his appointment at Georgetown, he serves on the adjunct faculty at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs where he teaches in the Executive Masters in Public Administration Program. Professor Dong has been recognized for his teaching ability and has received numerous awards for outstanding teaching including the2008 Gonzales Prize for Excellence in Teaching at Georgetown University, 2009 and 2010 Professor of the Module Award by the Evening and Full Time MBA programs, and the 2009 Deans Award for Excellence in Teaching at Columbia University.

As an expert in global operations and Supply Chain management, Ricardo Ernst has taught more than 6,000 executives how to transform the way they conduct business in global markets. He has garnered accolades and honors for developing strategic frameworks and quantitative metrics and performance evaluations for the logistics requirements and challenges of coordinating complex supply chain projects for corporations and nonprofit organizations.
In addition to teaching executive education at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business in Washington, D.C., Ernst has taught in numerous global locations on nearly every continent. He is the managing director of the Georgetown University Latin American Board, designed to improve the strategic positioning and outreach of the University with the Latin American region. He is also the managing director of the Global Business Initiative created to distinguish Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business as the premier destination for global business education.
Ernst has earned several awards for teaching, including the Outstanding Teacher Award for the International Executive MBA program, The Joseph F. Le Moine Award for Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Excellence from Georgetown University, and The MBA Core Curriculum Award from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also has been listed as one of the Best Professors by Businessweek magazine.

Professor Holtom’s research focuses on how organizations acquire, develop and retain human and social capital. His work has appeared in the top journals in management (Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, International Journal of Human Resource Management and many others). In the 2007 AACSB Report on the Impact of Business School Research, his work was specifically cited as having made an important intellectual contribution to policy or practice (along with Michael Porter of Harvard, Peter Senge of MIT and Nobel Prize winner James March).
He was named the 2005 Ascendant Scholar of the Year for the Western Academy of Management and has twice received the Professor of the Year award for the Georgetown University Executive Masters of Leadership Program.
